Walter Hagen, Remember to Smell The Flowers

I find a lot of vintage Hagen clubs at the thrift stores, he was popular in his heyday, and his popularity sold a lot of clubs.

Hagen is one of the best professional golfers to play the game. He was featured in the great golf book and movie, “The Greatest Game Ever Played”, and also in “The Legend of Bagger Vance”.

Vintage Walter Hagen, golfing great

One of the all-time golf greats, he is third all time in majors won with 11, after Nicklaus and Tiger. He won on the PGA Tour 45 times.

Hagen is considered to be instrumental in raising the stature and earning power of golfers with his flamboyant personality and living large attitude coupled with business savvy. He was one of the first golfers to endorse and design matched sets of golf clubs, which he did for Wilson.

The Golf Artist salutes this golfing great with our “Smell the Flowers” golf plaque, made with reclaimed wood and a vintage Hagen iron, and lettered with his quote:

“You are only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry, and be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”
